Rebranding at the MAC
By Daniel Carrero
The Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC) went through exterior rebranding renovations on Nov. 4 to discontinue being affiliated with the name ‘Ryerson University.’
The MAC is the final building to go through a ‘major signage’ rebranding process after the university changed its name to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in April 2022, according to an emailed statement from the university.
The building, located at the corner of Carlton Street and Church Street, now has the university’s updated initials—TMU—represented on its North, East and South walls.
TMU’s Board of Governors allotted $6.5 million of its budget to work on the rebranding process on April 28, 2022, as previously reported by The Eyeopener.
TMU library introduces new data consulting service
By Jerry Zhang
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Libraries has officially launched a statistical consulting service through its Geospatial, Map & Data Centre (GMDC), supporting researchers and faculty in data analysis and statistics.
The service was ‘soft launched’ in early 2024, however, it was not officially announced until Oct. 29 in an article published by TMU Libraries.
The service is led by Statistical Consultation and Learning Specialist Bhaswati Mazumder along with Data Librarian Kevin Manuel, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Map Librarian Dan Jakubek and GIS Specialist Noel Damba at TMU.
The team assists students and faculty with statistical learning, data collection, organization, software selection and data visualization.
The service aims to address the rising demand for in-depth statistical support across various disciplines.
“A lot of times we see researchers coming from non-quantitative backgrounds, who are dealing with data analysis and statistics for the first time,” Mazumder said in an article released by TMU Library last month.
Researchers can book consultations tailored to their needs while faculty can arrange guest lectures, class visits and workshops.
Although this service is open to all students and faculty, it is intended for advanced research only.
Additional details can be found on the service’s website.
