The Ryerson Arts Society (RAS) was approved to charge a $30 per-student, per-semester levy for students in its faculty on Nov. 5 by a vote of 220-217.
Voting began on Nov. 2, though the Board of Governors had accepted the group as an official student society on Sept. 28.
RSA Chair Marzia Riaz learned of the results at The Ram in the Rye, where several RSA executives held a post-referendum event.
“It means that we are going to be able to put on our events that we want to put on,” Riaz said. “It just means that we’ll be able to do so much more now and I’m so excited to bring all of this to the students.”
The society’s proposed levy was approved by a mere three votes, which Riaz said was due to a lower voter turnout than expected.
“We still have a lot of our students to educate about what we’re doing and what we want to do,” she said.
