After the shortest campaign period in recent RSU history, the election results are in and Impact has won a commanding victory in the majority of polls.
The Impact slate secured all five executive positions with nearly double the votes of the opposing slate, RU Connected. Obaid Ullah will be the new RSU president, Victoria Morton was elected for VP education, Tamara Jones as VP equity, Neal Muthreja for VP operations and Harman Singh, current VP student life, was reelected for his position.
“It’s good, I mean, I’m happy. But now the work starts to represent the students as the leaders they chose,” said Ullah, who was this year’s VP operations. He added that he hopes this year will be a lot smoother and his previous RSU experience will allow the new team to get a head start.
Jones, who ran on a platform of improving mental health resources on campus and environmental accountability, said she thinks her team ran for the right reasons. “I don’t that anyone on our team is here because they crave power or anything other than just having a passion to make their faculty better and the school better.”
Morton said she’s ready to start transitioning into her position. “It’s really a start right away sort of thing. We feel like we were very transparent in campaigning and our points were designed around, what was tangible this year,” she said.
Impact also dominated the faculty directors polls for communication and design, winning four out of four spots. For engineering and architecture, Impact got nearly four times as many votes as their opponents.
RU Connected won a majority of community services faculty directors positions, taking four out of five seats.
Impact won two positions for the arts faculty, while RU Connected won the other spot. Impact got both faculty of science seats on the board, and all five positions in the Ted Rogers School of Management.
The international student representative position was also taken by Impact.
