Ryerson has just announced that the installation of the iconic Sam the Record Man sign is expected to begin this spring and be completed later in 2017.
Sign-making company Sunset Neon has been hired to restore and install the sign on the roof of the Public Health Building on Victoria Street, where it will be visible from Yonge-Dundas Square.
The announcement said that The City of Toronto and Ryerson had to do feasibility and engineering studies before installing the sign, especially due to it’s massive weight.
Ryerson will be covering all costs of the refurbishment, maintenance and installation of the sign, as announced in 2014.
Ryerson has a long history of dealing with the sign, which began when they broke their promise to install it on the new Student Learning Centre that replaced the original record store.
More to come.
