RyeSAC and other services need to be more accessible to students, says this year’s presidential candidates.
Angelo DeLuca, current VP of administration, said he decided to run for president this year to try and make Ryerson a “better place.”
“I have so many great ideas,” he said. “I just need the space to work on them.” DeLuca’s major campaign issues include turning the bookstore and other student services into RyeSAC-run operations.
Jason Beyak, a third-year theatre students and presidential candidate, believes students are “in the dark” about RyeSAC.
“Most people I’ve talked to told me they don’t even know what their government does,” he said. Beyak wants to work more with the community to find students jobs after graduation.
Jarrett Churchill, a third-year journalism student, thinks the current executive has “lost touch with students.”
“The average student could do a better job since they’d know the problems and be directly affected by all the decisions they made on council,” he said. Churchill wants to integrate some services on campus with the programs they relate to.
Rory Baksh, a third-year urban planning student, said as president he would try to improve communication between RyeSAC and the student body.
“We have to get the government out to the students,” he said. Baksh wants to improve the library and computer services on campus.
Also running is Lionel Poizner, a third-year industrial engineering student. He could not be reached for comment.
Election day is Thurs. Jan. 30, with an advance poll on Jan. 29, with a debate in the Credit Union Lounge on Jan. 27.
