Her experiences with the children compelled her to writer her own poetry. She remembers a man in the audience of one of her show objecting to a poem about child abuse. “He said, ‘Can’t we just hear something happy?’” she recalls. “But I said to him, ‘If you, a grown man, can’t listen to it, how do you think a nine-year old feels when she’s dealing with it on a day-to-day basis?’”

Oakham House’s floundering arts and culture magazine may have found its rescuers. Dave Fielding and Justin Anderson, two third-year magazine journalism students, have taken control of OH! Magazine.

First-year image arts students got a taste of exhibitionism for two glorious evenings last week on campus. The submissions to the first-year film festival and Sections, a combined media show, varied in style as much that this reviewer felt poked, provoked and vanked in innumerable ways.

The first issue, entitled MY2K Martini 2000, hit the Net Jan. 30 and includes an array of drink and food recipes, music and movie reviews, a look at the evolution of alcohol’s place in society, sex tips from the “Lounge Lizard” and even advice on how to throw a successful cocktail party.

First-year image arts students are getting ready to display their talents to the public in several upcoming exhibitions.

Brink graduated from Ryerson’s film program in 1995. During his first year at Ryerson he realized the film industry was not for him. “I didn’t want to be a filmmaker in a cigarette-smoking, donut-eating culture,” he says.
