National Students’ Day – does anybody care?
RyeSAC celebrated National Students’ Day last Wednesday with an open house and free food. And they did it alone. The crackers and crudities laid out for visitors were barely touched as RyeSAC executives milled around in anticipation of the masses that never came.
“There were not as many students as I’d like to see,” said RyeSAC President Paul Cheevers after over-estimating the number of participants at “a couple of hundred.”
Ryerson Students didn’t miss much. A quick tour of the student government’s new offices and a table of munchies were all the open house had to offer. However, National Students’ Day did see RyeSAC launch the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations’ (CASA) “Real Choices Campaign” to deal with the upcoming cuts to education funding by the Federal and Provincial governments. Members of RyeSAC visited classrooms to explain the plan to students and posters went up draw attention to the campaign.
