OUAA Sports Short: October 18, 1995

By Bill Cowin

It was the week of the tie in OUAA football action last week. As a result, the playoff picture is no clearer than it was a week ago.

The Toronto Blues were able to grind out a 19-19 tie against the Western Mustangs (ranked #2 in the country), while the Waterloo Warriors battled for a 23-23 tie against the top-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks.

The two ties changed little in the standings among these teams. Laurier remains on top (5-0-1) followed by Western (4-1-1), Waterloo (3-2-1) and Toronto (3-2-1).

Meanwhile, the York Yeomen continued with their surprising season upsetting the McMaster Marauders 20-14.

The win was the third this year for the Yeomen, who lost a record 47 straight games, leaving them one point behind Waterloo and Toronto for the last playoff spot.

The loss all but eliminated the Marauders from playoff contention, leaving them three points behind with only two games to play.

The playoff picture should be crystal clear after this weekend. York travels to Waterloo to take on the Warriors, while the Marauders host the Blues.
