Debators get cash for Greece

By Sean Fitz-Gerald

It appears the Oakham House Debating Society will celebrate their Christmas in the land of Plato, the Olympics and souvlaki.

After three weeks of hand-wringing and arguing, the Society has finally been granted the $2,200 needed to go to Greece for the World Debating Championships in December.

“At this point we are both excited and confused,” master debater Shane Dingman said. “We knew we deserved it [the money], but we’re also very grateful.”

Last week, the Oakham House Management Board voted against shifting funds from the debating society’s $6,200 budget to accommodate the trip.

However, this week, the Society was notified by RyeSAC VP administration David Stelle that the needed money had been secured from the Ryerson Centre, and the Ryerson VP administration’s office.
