Ryerson engineering student Rob Rusnov was an opening-round casualty at his Olympic archery competition earlier this week.
Rusnov, 26, of Richmond Hill, was defeated in a shoot-out by Sweden’s Niklas Eriksson, 161-155.
The shoot-out, which occurred Monday morning, Sydney time, at the Sydney International Archery Park, had the two archers fire 18 shots in six rounds of three.
Although Rusnov had a 26-24 lead after the first round, he could not hang on. With the win Eriksson advanced to the final-16 round.
Rusnov, who placed 38th in the 1996 Atlanta Games, could not be reached for comment.
In an interview last month, however, he told The Eyeopener he’d likely retire after the Sydney Games.
