Ryerson’s volleyball teams will jump into their regular season this week with some momentum.
Both the men’s and women’s teams won medals in the preseason tournaments this weekend, in preparation for their OUA season openers at the University of Guelph Friday.
The women, who finished third at their own exhibition tournament earlier this month, won all five of their games to pick up gold at a Queen’s University event.
Two wins came against the host Golden Gaels, the second one a 3-0 win in the championship game. Jacquie Fler was named the tournament’s most valuable player, while Marijana Curic was announced a tournament all star.
The men’s team earned their first tournament medal in two years after placing second at a Durham College tournament in Oshawa.
After going 3-0-2 in preliminary-round play, the Rams swept Huron College 20 in the semifinal.
Pitted against Durham in the final, the Rams were swept 2-0. Ryerson’s Jesse Tsang and Aleksander Simic were named tournament all stars.
When the volleyball seasons begin, the women will be shooting for a second-straight playoff berth, while the men will look to improve on their 1-11 league record. The Rams’ home openers are Tuesday, Nov. 7, when both teams take on York University.
