Women’s b-ball off to scary start

By Noah Love

Perhaps in preparation for Halloween, Ryerson’s women’s volleyball team delivered some scart performances on the weekend.

The Ram’s 3-2 losses to the Guelph Gryphons (2-1) and McMaster Marauders (2-2) were frightening to watch for head coach Arif Nathoo.

“We played poorly,” he said. “Against Guelph we were up two sets to one, but in the fourth [set] we blew a ten-point led.

“We started celebrating too early,” he said. “The girls didn’t believe they could beat Guelph, so the got excited and stopped concentrating.”

Nathoo said the 0-2 start has put his team in a vulnerable position, since its goal is to be among the top two teams in the six-tea, OUA East Division. There are 15 games remaining on the Rams’ schedule.

“These are two teams we should have beaten,” he said. “They could jeopardize our chances for the season. It’s still early but somebody’s going to have to step up.”

Saturday the Rams travel to Kingston to play the Queen’s Golden Gaels (0-2). Their home opener is Tuesday at 6 p.m. against York University in Kerr gym.
