St. Francis Xavier University’s X-Men captured their second straight CIAU men’s basketball title with an 83-76 overtime victory over the Brandon University Bobcats on Sunday. The game concluded the final eight tournament.
The X-Men, who lost only one game this season, sent Halifax native Dennie Oliver to the foul like with two shots with the score tied at 72. With the chance to win the game and no time left on the clock, Oliver missed both shots, sending the game into overtime.
The X-Men pulled ahead in the extra minutes with two key foul shots by Oliver, who was named the X-Men’s player of the game. Teammate Everett Adams scored a lay-up to clinch the victory with less than a minute remaining in overtime.
St. F.X.’s Randy Nohr was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
In the consolation final earlier in the day, the Carleton University Ravens beat the Saint Mary’s University Huskies 86-67 to finish in third place.
Ryerson finished third in the OUA East division, missing the qualification for the CIAU finals.
