Hockey teams suffer setback

By Kevin Gonsalves

The Rams lost their Thursday night home game 4-3 to the University of Waterloo Warriors. Saturday night, they were dominated by the University of Toronto Blues and lost 3-1.

The score against the Varsity Blues flattered the Rams. Goalie Jon Sikkema stopped 59 of 62 shots on goal. Toronto had a number of excellent scoring chances directly in front of the net.

“That was the most shots I’ve ever faced,” said Sikkema after the game. “U of T has some pretty skilled forwards.”

As disappointing as the Toronto game was, Ryerson’s loss to the University of Waterloo Warriors was more disheartening to the team.

“We have a tired group of players,” said head coach Ed Kirsten. “Injuries and sickness have started to take their toll.”

The Rams are 5-6-0 with one game left before the holiday break.

“If you had told us before the season started we’d have a chance to be at .500, we would’ve been thrilled,” Kristen said.

Ryerson play their final game of this year at Laurier on Saturday.
