Men’s volleyball eliminated

By Noah Love

The men’s volleyball team was eliminated from playoff contention on the weekend.

With a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) loss to York University on Friday night, the Rams record dropped to 0-9, making it mathematically impossible to reach the playoffs.

They followed the loss with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18) defeat against Queen’s University on Saturday.

Anton Hauser continued his stellar play with 31 kills in the two weekend matches. He has carried the team on offense this season.

“We need to re-adjust our goals,” coach Mirek Porosa said in the Rams’ weekend report.

The Rams have six games left to stop themselves from going winless two consecutive seasons.

The women’s team kept pace with their division. The women lost a heartbreaker to York 3-2 (25-13, 25-17, 18-25, 24-26, 15-13).

After losing the first two sets, the Rams composed themselves and won the next two, only to lose the final set by two points.

The women regrouped on Saturday to beat arch-rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-19).

Captain Elizabeth Reid finished with 14 kills and 12 digs for the energetic Rams’ squad.

Ryerson’s record is now 5-6. They host Lakehead University on Saturday at 2 p.m, and then again on Sunday at noon in the Kerr Gym.
