V-ballers split it

The Ryerson men’s volleyball team entered the first weekend of the new year with momentum on their side. After defeating the University of Toronto for the first time ever in the final of York’s Excalibur tournament to take the gold medal, the Rams returned home ready to make a push for a playoff spot. However, the momentum didn’t seem to carry over as the Rams lost their first game of the new year 3-1 to the Guelph Gryphons.

The Rams rebounded with a 3-0 victory over last place Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday. “We were dominating, we were aggressive we were serving well. I’m extremely proud. We shut them out mentally and they couldn’t do anything,” coach Mirek Porosa said. The Golden Hawks are 0-11 on the season.

The Rams sit tied for seventh place, only two points out of a playoff spot entering a crucial weekend. The Rams play sixth place Western and fifth place Waterloo.
