ROWER NABS 2ND

By James Mirtle

The Ryerson rowing squad visited Brock University over the weekend and came away with two medals.

Rowing team veteran Andy Guiry finished in second place in his varsity men’s singles race, and the novice men’s eight team picked up a third place trophy.

“They rowed really well,” said head coach Dominic Kahn of the novice team. “Well, they were awesome. Some of the other schools have learned some more advanced skills, so they looked better out there, but our guys used what they’ve learned and did well. To win a medal already was great.”

Other teams taking place in the event were the women’s eight and the women’s four. Overall, Kahn said, he was very happy with how the team performed.

“It was a good regatta,” he said. “It was good to see Andy race pain free and have him have such a good race.”

Next up for Guiry is the Head of the Charles event in Boston on Oct. 23 and 24. The next event for the full team will be the OUA championships in London, Ont., on Oct. 30.
