The Ryerson Athletics Centre could be your best friend.
Just $30 per semester gets you in the RAC to use the squash courts, weight and cardio rooms, track, gyms, pool, and yes, the ever-so-popular ping pong tables.
The RAC intramural programs are a lot of fun, they’re competitive, and there’s no tryouts to join. Basketball, floor hockey, volleyball and “Ultimate” (that’s the name nerds gave Frisbee) come calling.
If that doesn’t tickle you the right way, maybe a couple dodgeballs will. The Vince Vaughn-inspired fad has taken Gould Street by storm, and no child should do without. Wear appropriate clothing, though. It can get rough.
And with the National Hockey League back this season, you RyeHighers should look to the Leafs for success. If you still need that hockey fix, Ryerson’s men’s hockey team plays out of the George Bell Arena. At just a 45-minute transit commute, the cozy arena is practically next door. No wonder so many students take in the games.
For you footballers, not much luck. We don’t have a throw/catch football team, but we do have the other football, the oh-I-wish-I-was-Italian type. The team plays in Scarborough, though, so play that how you’d like. Was that iambic pentameter?
Volleyball and basketball play right here on campus, and your Student Card gets you in for free. So go take in a game or two. Maybe after a drink or two. Whatever works. Who knows? We may actually win.
That’s plan A. Plan B: Dodgeball.
