Ever wonder who’s behind the student newspaper you love/hate? Well, we’re not scary and we want you to get to know us.
In the first installment of this ongoing series, you’ll meet Aleysha Haniff, one of the Eyeopener’s online editors.

When I was in Grade 1, I wanted to be an opera singer.
The reasons for this potential life choice remain unclear. I was not a fat lady who enjoyed singing at the end of a happenstance. Nor did I have a habit of wearing pointy horns on my tiny head. (I did, however, have pigtails. This could have been a mitigating factor.)
Nevertheless, I’d practise my opera technique to the best of my ability… often as I walked home from school. Walking and warbling is a bad combination.
I think the world is thankful I ended up being a journalist instead.
I’m now the old-timer on the Eyeopener masthead. In previous years, I worked as associate news editor, arts and life editor and news editor. In previous years, I was also extremely sleep-deprived… but that has to be a coincidence, right?
As one of the Eyeopener’s online editors, I handle a lot of fun daily content. Let me know what you’d like to see! Shoot me an email at online@theeyeopener.com. You can also find me on Twitter [@ahaniff or @theeyeopener].
