RCDS ban on slates lifted for BoD elections

By Al Downham

After difficulties scheduling an emergency general meeting, the Ryerson Communication and Design Society’s (RCDS) board of directors (BoD) has allowed slates in its upcoming election.

“We’re moving forward with the election but we’re not enforcing slates or no slates in this election particularly,” said RCDS president Casey Yuen. “Because we couldn’t give the student body enough notice we decided we shouldn’t go through elections without notifying anyone.”

The general meeting was set after a petition called to discuss the RCDS’ BoD motion to eliminate slates on Jan. 21. The emergency meeting was initially set for later that month but was postponed over difficulties finding a chair for the BoD.

Yuen said the general meeting on enforcing slates or no slates in future RCDS BoD elections will occur after the election.

The election is scheduled for Feb. 10-12 on D2L.
