Ryerson received a $36.63-million investment from the federal and provincial governments to fund research on campus.
In a press conference at Ryerson’s Launch Zone on Sept. 29, Minister of Finance Bill Morneau, Trinity-Spadina MPP Han Dong and Ryerson President Mohamed Lachemi announced that the funding would go towards building more research space and improving laboratories.
Ryerson will be receiving $19.89 million and providing $25.8 million to create a Centre for Urban Innovation on Gerrard Street East that will comprise other small incubators like the Centre for Urban Energy and the Ryerson Urban Water Institute.
The other $16.74 million—including $4.74 million from the provincial government and an extra $11.9 million from Ryerson—will be going towards upgrading existing research space in Ryerson’s STEM buildings and providing more space for the Fashion, Transmedia and Design Fabrication Zones.
More to come.
