Ryerson lecturer alleges assault

By Alanna Rizza

A Ryerson graphic communications management lecturer* alleges he was assaulted in the early morning of Oct. 8 as he was coming home from a Thanksgiving dinner.

Trung Nguyen made a Facebook post detailing the incident; he was in the High Park area when a group of people made rude comments directed towards him and the person he was walking with, Tyler Redpath. One person from the group, he wrote, physically assaulted them. Nguyen claims he had a seizure because of his injuries.

According to the Facebook post, Redpath called 911 and the attacker ran away.

Const. Craig Brister of Toronto police said there is no evidence proving the assault occurred. Brister said there have been multiple witnesses saying that Nguyen’s injuries were sustained from a fall.

Nguyen said in his Facebook post that witnesses, who he assumes are the same people who made the comments, told Toronto police that he sustained his injuries from tripping after sexually harassing the group. “This is obviously not true,” Nguyen wrote.

More to come.

*A previous version of this story incorrectly said that Trung Nguyen is a part-time lecturer at Ryerson. The Eyeopener regrets this error.
