Fourth-year RTA student Scott Zhang, known artistically as Monsune, premiered a video for his long-awaited new single “Outta My Mind” on Thursday night, via Wonderland.
The soulful pop track comes more than a year and a half after the release of Zhang’s debut single “Nothing In Return,” which currently sits with over two million views on YouTube. The track sat comfortably on Spotify’s Bedroom Pop playlist for more than a year, according to Wonderland.
“Outta My Mind” was written, arranged and produced by Zhang and mixed by Jeff Ellis, who is known for working with artists like Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, The Neighbourhood and Kali Uchis.
“Blending soulful vocals with innovative pop melodies from his Toronto bedroom, Monsune indulges in his passion for both music and film by directing and producing his own music videos,” Wonderland wrote.
“Taken in a long, continuous tracking shot, the video takes place within an eclectic restaurant and witnesses the beginnings of a fight between two diners.”
Zhang will release his debut EP “Tradition” this fall, while finishing up his final year at Ryerson.
“Outta My Mind” will be available on all streaming platforms at midnight.
