The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has arrested 23-year-old Ryan Petroff, the suspect wanted in a hit-and-run that left multiple pedestrians injured at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) on April 15, as previously reported by The Eyeopener.
In a press release published on Friday, TPS confirmed that 24 charges have been laid against Petroff.
According to the press release, Petroff was arrested after being stopped and investigated by police on Thursday following a “road rage incident” in the Morningside Avenue and Highway 401 area.
He was previously wanted by police for eight charges after being identified as a suspect of the TMU hit-and-run the day after the incident.
TPS said in an April 16 press release that the hit-and-run is being investigated as an “intentional, targeted attack towards a specific person.”
According to TPS, those injured by the vehicle were sitting on a bench on Nelson Mandela Walk when the suspect drove towards them, striking three and injuring two others, before fleeing the scene.
Two people were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth person with non-life-threatening injuries was identified by police after the incident, TPS added in Friday’s press release.
TPS confirmed in an emailed statement to The Eye that 13 of the 24 charges are relevant to the hit-and-run and verified that none of the victims were affiliated with TMU.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
