Pink powers up the Bold in 3-0 victory

By Simran Sidhu

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women’s soccer team returned with high spirits despite the heat, leading to a 3-0 victory against the Laurentian University Voyageurs at Downsview Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Bold wore bright pink jerseys for their annual Think Pink Game, during which they raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

TMU maintained offensive pressure from the start, with the first-year forward duo of Taylor Fazzari and Telaijah Folkes coming together for the opening goal in the 32nd minute. Folkes sent a flawless pass down the line and ended with a beautiful finish right into the net by Fazzari.

Just before the halftime whistle, fourth-year forward Taliyah Walker, with great force and precision, launched the ball from beyond the box in the 45th minute, assisted by third-year defender Amanda Rankin. The goal sent TMU into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The Bold solidified their victory in the 68th minute with a goal from fourth-year forward Aalayah Lully. Lully had maintained consistent pressure against the Laurentian defence all through the first half and shot down the field, firing a left-footed shot into the back of the net for the third and final goal for the Bold.

While the Voyageurs applied pressure in the second half, the Bold’s defence held strong and united, and third-year goalkeeper Elisa Paolucci maintained her position, ensuring nothing got past her.

TMU were shown two yellow cards late in the game, one given to first-year midfielder Olivia Narciso in the 87th minute and another to third-year midfielder Vanessa Planta in the 90th minute.

With the large lead, the Bold substituted first-year goalkeeper Kyra Pettibone to close off the game.

This win improves TMU’s record to 4-4-2 this season, a much-needed result after three consecutive matches without a victory.

UP NEXT: The Bold will hope to continue their winning streak in their match-up against the Ontario Tech University Ridgebacks at Downsview Park on Oct. 6. Kick-off is at 4:00 p.m.
