A security breach in the Rogers Communication Centre (RCC) resulted in the theft of a backpack and a laptop from a locked lab on Wednesday.

Dan Westell, a part-time journalism professor, confirmed that one of his student’s backpack was stolen from RCC 187, as well as a laptop.

He heard that a key to access a variety of different rooms was misplaced, likely resulting in access to the locked lab.

“This is the first theft I’ve been aware of in about 10 years,” said Westell, which is how long he has been teaching at Ryerson. “They told us since day one to lock your door if you’re not in your office.”

He confirmed that Ryerson security attended and were interviewing the victims of the thefts.

This is the third theft of a laptop from a locked room in less than a week, the previous two being from a PhD student office in Eric Palin Hall.
