Ryerson University was the first choice for more than 6,000 high school graduates in Ontario this year, cementing its reputation as one of the most sought-after universities in the province.

Only the University of Toronto and York University had more students pick them as top choice, according to application results to be posted today by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.

Ryerson saw the largest increase in first-choice applicants at 7.4 per cent compared to the system average of 3.7 per cent and also saw the highest overall increase in applicants at 8.9 per cent compared to a system average of 1.6 per cent.

Overall, 30,000 students chose Ryerson on their application sheet, 2,500 more than last year.

Kara Corston, a first-year Criminal Justice Studies student knows first-hand why Ryerson is a top pick.

“I think I made the right choice when it comes to my program because I really enjoy the program that I’m in and I’m really happy with the way it’s working out,” she said.
