Ryerson students vote to implement RU-Pass in September 2019

By Raneem Alozzi

Ryerson University students have voted in favour for the RU-Pass.

Out of 16,331 votes submitted, 10,158 students voted for the universal transit pass while 6,079 students voted against it. The referendum had a total voter turnout of 42.8 per cent.

The pass will cost students $70 a month and $280 a semester, plus a $2 service fee, a total sum that will be added to students’ fees at the beginning of each semester. A monthly post-secondary TTC pass currently costs $116.75 a month.

The RU-Pass will provide full-time students with unlimited access to Toronto’s buses, subways and streetcars and will be administered through Presto.

The RU-Pass will come into effect in September 2019.

More to come.
