Provincial elections
RyeSAC has decided not to support any political parties in Ontario election because “we’re not sure what candidates really stand for,” says VP Education Greg Thomas.
Portable politics
Contrary to rumour, RyeSAC exec’s will not be getting cellular phones. “The last thing I need is Greg Thomas calling me when I’m at a meeting somewhere saying we have to write a letter or something,” Paul Cheevers said.
Yearbooks for Rye?
One of RyeSAC’s priorities is to publish a yearbook. VP Donna MacNeil said the yearbook is in a feeling out stage.
Goodbye Grier
Ryerson said goodbye to outgoing president Terry Grier last month. The reception was held with free food and drink to the delight of several Eyeopener staffers. Grier was president for seven years.
Media machine
News media is becoming an unchangeable big institution says the chair of Ryerson Journalism. John Miller was speaking at the St. Lawrence Centre’s May 10 public forum addressing the question, “Is the news media credible?”. Miller said the media is not in touch with the public, and the public needs to get it back before damage to the press is irreversible.
