The first thing she wants people to know is that she works her but off. The second thing is that her name is Carol Ng, and the third thing is that she wears a blonde wig.
Ng, an actress and film graduate from U of T, plays a temptress in a blonde wig in National Lampoon’s Senior Trip, a comedy about a group of high-school kids who go on a (guess what) trip to Washington D.C.
the movie also stars Matt (Max Headroom) Frewer, but that’s not the strangest thing about it. Believe it or not, this high school spoof is a Canadian/American co-production, directed by Kelly Megan of Kids in The Hall fame. Working in both Canada and the U.S. provided for a different atmosphere than most movie sets, and was, according to Ng, a healthy start to her film career.
“Being involved in the film was a unique experience, since it had Canadian and American actors and crew, and was shot both in Toronto and Washington,” Ng said. “Another good thing was there was no ‘ego’ involved on the set, even though the cast has its fair share of actors with experience under their belts.”
But Ng doesn’t need a belt; she works her but off. Although she is only 23 and has been working for just two years in the industry, Ng has an impressive portfolio. She has earned a film degree, appeared in several commercials, and directed her own short film—”Finding Miss Muffet,” a comedic look at the entertainment industry.
And she has no intention of stopping there—Senior Trip will just be the first step towards a long career path. “These days I’m trying to get funding for my own film project. A piece of work with a heavy, dramatic subject. Hopefully, shooting will start by the end of the year.”
In the meantime, anybody interested in seeing Ng in action should check out Senior Trip, a “hilarious bit of fun” coming your way in the near future. And be sure to stand up in the theatre, point and scream “Her hair’s not really blonde! It’s a wig…AND she works her butt off!”
