Arts & CultureCommunitiesVideo The Swans’ Lake October 3, 2010 Missed Scotiabank’s Nuit Blanche yesterday? Check out this video of “The Swan’s Lake”, a sculpture and large scale motor-driven light installation from Ryerson’s School of Interior Design and Theatre School. Artist Statement: Much like a large-scale motorized clockwork “toy” and moving to the strains of Tchalkovsky, motorized swans bedecked in tutus & ballet toe-shoes move […]
Video Drink of the Week: The Lumberjack September 29, 2010 This week, Ian Vandaelle tells you how to make a drink that will leave you feeling distinctively Canadian — even if it results in a potential loss of dignity.
Video Video: Gould Street Carnival September 29, 2010 After years of rumbling, grumbling and student activism, Gould Street finally closed earlier this month. Yes, it’s only for a yearlong pilot project, but that didn’t stop the school from throwing one hell of a carnival to celebrate.
Fun & SatireVideo This week’s $50 prize winner is… September 27, 2010 In this video, we reveal the winner of last week’s lateral mind puzzle, who will now be a whole $50 richer. Watch the video to find out who’s probably going to be buying themselves a new textbook. Or beer (which if that’s the case, hopefully they’ll be nice enough to get some for us too). […]

CommunitiesVideo Video: Move snitch! Eye vs Rye September 20, 2010 If you’ve read any of the three campus newspapers, you already know that Ryerson has a Quidditch team. But the Eyeopener, both amazed and bemused by this story, decided to go one step further and challenge the team to a match of epic proportions. It would be a classic case of the amateurs versus the veterans. It would also be a way to get us out of the office for something other than free food and parties.
CommunitiesVideo VIDEO: Pop it lock it September 17, 2010 The Urban Hip-Hop Union at Ryerson strives to prove that hip-hop not only a lifestyle, but a culture. They definitely made a believer out of first-year journalism student Christina Dun, who let the Eyeopener get a sneak peak into the world of UHHU by allowing us to document her audition for UHHU's very selective dance team. If selected, Christina would go on to compete at the Ontario University Competition for Hip-Hop with the rest of the team.
SportsVideo The Tryout: Dance Pak September 15, 2010 There’s a tradition we have here at the Eyeopener: every year the sports editor tries out for a bunch of teams to get to know the players and coaches. But more importantly, they make a complete and utter fool of themselves and put it into print. Sports Editor Rob Moysey tried out for Ryerson's dance team, The Dance Pak. Believe it or not, Rob has never danced before...
CommunitiesVideo Video: One-on-one with Shad September 12, 2010 Canadian hip hop musician Shad performed on Friday during the Ryerson Students' Union parade and picnic. A graduate of Wilfred Laurier University, Shad recorded his first album in his last year of studies and recently was nominated for the Polaris music prize. His latest album, TSOL, has spawned numerous hits including Rose Garden and Ya I get it. The Eyeopener's community editor Allyssia Alleyne caught up with Shad before he went on stage. SportsVideo Quidditch in the quad September 9, 2010 Inspired by the Harry Potter books, Muggle Quidditch is a sport that is growing all across the globe and especially in university sports. A cross between manhunt, dodge ball and basketball, Muggle Quidditch is an extremely physically demanding sport that requires some athleticism to play. Perhaps surprisingly, it is a contact co-ed sport with full body tackles. If you are interested in joining Ryerson's team, practices are every Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the quad and everyone is welcome to come out and play.
