Canadian hip hop musician Shad performed on Friday during the Ryerson Students' Union parade and picnic. A graduate of Wilfred Laurier University, Shad recorded his first album in his last year of studies and recently was nominated for the Polaris music prize. His latest album, TSOL, has spawned numerous hits including Rose Garden and Ya I get it. The Eyeopener's community editor Allyssia Alleyne caught up with Shad before he went on stage. DMZ adds new media consultant

Ryerson University’s innovative Digital Media Zone (DMZ) welcomed its latest hire last week with the appointment of Gerri Sinclair, a veteran digital media consultant.
Formerly the chief executive officer of the Centre for Digital Media at Great Northern Way Campus in Vancouver, Sinclair, 63, spoke with The Eyeopener about her excitement to begin working at Ryerson amongst those she refers to as “forward thinkers.”

Quidditch in the quad

Inspired by the Harry Potter books, Muggle Quidditch is a sport that is growing all across the globe and especially in university sports. A cross between manhunt, dodge ball and basketball, Muggle Quidditch is an extremely physically demanding sport that requires some athleticism to play. Perhaps surprisingly, it is a contact co-ed sport with full body tackles. If you are interested in joining Ryerson's team, practices are every Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the quad and everyone is welcome to come out and play.

Student dies in sleep

In a few short weeks, 19-year-old Tracy Scott would have been boarding a plane to finally see Europe.
Since last year, she had been eagerly counting the days until Sept. 18, when she would travel to Italy, Germany and Austria with about 30 other Ryerson geography students.
