How to get noticed in the dark

Arts and life editor Gianluca Inglesi suggests looks for the three most common styles of costumes

SEXY

In the last few years vampire folklore has exploded. It’s taken over our TV sets, movie screens and bookshelves and the rather traditional Halloween ensemble has gotten new life. How to make it hot? Get inspired from the sultry and sexy vampires of True Blood. Make it a couple costume by being prim vampire Pam and her midnight snack.

SCARY

For some, a big fear in Toronto this year was the election of Rob Ford as mayor. Well it’s happened. Why not make George Smitherman and Joe Pantalone run in fear and dress up as the new mayor on Sunday. And who knows — the people you attract with this costume may be even scarier.

OFFENSIVE

After the popularity of Juno, MTV searched for pregnant teens and produced the docudrama 16 and Pregnant. The show was a hit, resulting in a second season, a spinoff called Teen Mom and tabloid frenzy. Make the elderly in your neighbourhood cringe by getting all cute and pregnant for the weekend.

  1. Thirty-four percent of young teens become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20 — about 820,000 a year. 8/10 of these teen pregnancies are unintended and 79 percent are to single teens.
