Over 1,000 Ryerson students gathered in the quad on Thursday prepared to break the Guinness World Record for largest group of people simultaneously playing paddle ball.

Despite the fact that it was an unofficial Guinness World Records challenge, students managed to beat the current record by almost double.

The official record  for most people controlling paddle balls is 443 — this title belongs to Steve Langley (aka The Paddle Ball  King), who set the record in 2012. Ryerson clocked in at 1,291 students controlling paddle balls at once.

The event was part of RU Student Life orientation week. In the past, Ryerson has attempted to break the record for the largest cowbell ensemble, as well as the record for the largest dance class.
