Ryerson’s women’s volleyball team got back to their winning ways right before the winter break as they welcomed the Trent Excalibur to the OUA with a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-17) sweep on Saturday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
After the visiting University of Toronto snapped Ryerson’s 5-game winning streak on Friday night, the Rams were able to respond with a victory on home court. Trent just rejoined the OUA after 12 years in the OCAA, giving the Rams an easier opponent as they improved their record to 6-3 to finish the first half of the season. Veronica Livingston led the way with a game-high 13 kills, helping her team stay in 2nd place in the OUA East until their next match-up on Jan. 14.
The Excalibur were able to challenge a tired Rams squad throughout different points in the game; most notably the second set. The Rams committed their most errors in the second set with 8, and the Excalibur took advantage by creating some momentum with scrappy plays to take a 19-13 lead. Ryerson was able to refocus themselves during a timeout, with them battling back with a 13-5 run to ultimately take a commanding 2-0 set lead.
After a tough five-set game against their crosstown rivals on Friday, the Rams were able to stay stick to their strengths and finish their Saturday night match-up in commanding fashion. It was a necessary win for the Rams, with the Excalibur sitting in second-last place in the OUA East after falling to a 2-5 record tonight. The Rams proved to be the better and stronger team, beating the Excalibur 34-24 in kills, while also committing 6 fewer errors.
UP NEXT: The Rams will have almost two months of rest before they visit the York Lions for their next OUA match-up on Jan. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
